Renovated Yacht Requires Bespoke Folding Grating Table

Product: Bespoke teak grating table

Location: Winchester, Hampshire (The World)

Customer: Marine

In addition to garden furniture, teak is a popular wood for use on boats and yachts due to its high oil content. High quality teak is also able to withstand the constant soaking, whether it be salt or fresh water.

We were asked to make a bespoke folding table for a sea going yacht. It had to be a specific size to fit within the available space and required a grating top. The design was quite specific, as it was to blend in with the existing grating on the newly restored yacht. The yacht was originally made in 1911 in Glasgow and had been beautifully restored, now residing majestically in France.

Teak grating is used extensively on boats, ships and yacht’s because teak is not only beautiful and durable due to its high oil content, but the lattice design of grating has additional benefits. These include good drainage and non-slip properties. Grating design is not only popular for use in the cockpit area and gangways. It is also used on table tops because of these drainage and non-slip properties.

Normally we manufacture teak tables with solid flat tops but for this bespoke nautical requirement we instructed our craftsmen to make the top with regularly spaced identical, parallel, elongated teak bars within a teak frame.

Now our table is carefully stored on board the owners beautiful yacht and will accompany them as they travel the world, providing a perfect place to dine, read and relax.

5 Star Hotel Gets Bespoke Benches

Product: Cheverell Bench

Location: St. Albans, Hertfordshre

Customer: Commercial - The Grove Hotel

The Chelsea Gold Medallist and judge Michael Balston designed the beautiful and tranquil gardens at the five star Grove Hotel.

Set in 300 acres in St. Albans, Hertfordshire Michael Balston designed a formal seating area around some garden sculptures. Rather then deploy a conventional teak garden bench, he chose to include five Cheverell benches to go around the perimeter of the circular paved area.

Cheverell Bench

These benches were originally designed by Michael Balston himself, who also commissioned us to make them to his specific drawings. Being modular in design, these benches can be made to order dependant on the size required, from two to seven seater.

The delightfully ornate high-backed Cheverell benches with its gently sloping top, decorative finials, ornate legs and softly curved seat is expected to be very popular in the hotels grounds, which attract visitors from all around the world.

The Grove hotel also includes a luxury golf resort, a health spa resort and some of the most beautiful gardens just outside the M25.

A Great Rest Area for Tea

Product: Club Chairs, Mariposa Tables, Laurel Tables
Location:
Basingstoke, Hampshire
Customer: Commercial - Twinings

New seating and dining furniture was required following the refurbishment of the staff restaurant and new patio area outside the UK headquarters of popular Tea manufacturer Twinings.

Due to the proximity of the available space outside the main entrance, Twinings didn’t want to fill the area with standard outdoor seating. Instead they required something that looked attractive, inviting and sympathetic with the building. They wanted a functional area that encouraged staff to take a break, featuring furniture made of a material that was in keeping with the organic ethos of the company.

Twinings table & chairs

A selection of large, round Mariposa tables to encourage conversation and a few fixed rectangular Laurel tables were chosen, along with nearly 50 Club dining chairs.

Despite the poor weather at the time, the new seating area went down exceptionally well with the staff, who have all been using the rest area as hoped and even enthused about the quality of the teak furniture used.

A Seat with an Enviable Sea View

Product: Bespoke 175cm dia Tree bench
Location:
Flushing, Cornwall
Customer:
Residential

We received a residential tree bench commission to cover a huge concrete planter, which housed a large fig tree in the grounds of a beautiful garden overlooking Falmouth estuary.

A standard tree bench and our roll topped tree bench were too low to cover the unusual planter. The customer also wanted a rolled top to completely cover the planter edge and compliment the look with thick supporting legs.

Tree Bench Special Cornwall

We manufactured a bespoke teak tree bench with a 175cm internal and 290cm external diameter and included a wide smooth top.

With limited time to produce the seat before a forthcoming garden event, we had to draft the requirements, approve the drawings, manufacture and ship all within 3 months. From initial enquiry to installation, we managed to complete the task in under 11 weeks and within budget.

Please note the installation photographs show the tree bench in all its glory but the normally close fitting segments are yet to be bolted together which explains the slight gap between the pieces.

Lords Cricket Ground - Coronation Garden

Product: 105cm dia Tree Bench
Location:
North West London
Customer:
Commercial - The Lords Cricket Ground

The Lords cricket ground in North West London is the setting for some of the best cricket in the world. In their grounds is the Coronation Gardens, which houses the famous statue of W.G. Grace, the famous English amateur cricketer (18 July 1848 – 23 October 1915), as well as many memorial benches and the Thomas Lord memorial roller.

The gardens where created to celebrate the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1952 and a British Oak was planted in the grounds. A teak tree bench was originally installed around the oak and, many years on, the tree had out grown it and was beginning to show signs of age.

Lords 105 Tree Bench

The beautiful gardens are a popular picnic area for members, so Lords wanted to provide more seating, in addition to the conventional teak garden bench. They also wanted to replace the original smaller bench in this tranquil garden, whilst continuing to feature the British ‘Coronation’ Oak in the centre of the garden.

Chic Teak, already a provider of many of the memorial benches, supplied a popular 105cm diameter tree bench to allow the Britsh Oak plenty of room for growth, as well as providing additional seats. From here, those seated can see both the statue and roller, whilst reflecting on the Queens realm. The ground was levelled and covered with bark by the grounds staff. Howzat!

Tree Bench for Hull Paragon Station

Product: Engraved 125cm round tree bench
Location: Hull Paragon Station, East Yorkshire
Customer: The Philip Larkin Society

The Philip Larkin Society contacted us wanting to install an engraved bench within the Hull Paragon Station to commemorate the anniversary of the death of Philip Larkin, the English poet and novelist.

The society wanted the bench to compliment the Philip Larkin Statue and existing commemorative roundels, as well as featuring a suitably fitting passage from one of his most famous poems.

We supplied a 125cm round tree seat to go on the stations concourse, around one of the supporting pillars situated opposite the Philip Larkin Statue. The society supplied the wording and the bench was hand carved with the poet's name and a small extract from his poem ‘The Whitsun Weddings’: ‘All sense of being in a hurry gone’, which was taken from a poem that describes a Whitsun train departing for London and Wedding couples joining the train.

The bench was delivered and installed for an official unveiling, which was attended by The Lord Lieutenant of the County, Hon. Mrs Susan Cunliffe-Lister, The Lord Mayor of Hull, Daniel Brown and over 60 guests.

Unbeknown to us at the time, Philip Larkin had an indirect link with Chic Teak. Chic Teak supplies benches and various teak furniture items to Lords Cricket Ground, which homes the elite Marylebone Cricket Club, the MCC, of which body Philip Larkin was a proud member.
